Dismissal Request
You may request dismissal of your citation if you are charged with the following offense(s):
- Expired driver’s license
- Failure to change name or address on driver’s license
- Expired motor vehicle registration
- Failure to maintain insurance
Expired Driver’s License/Failure to Change Name or Address on Driver’s License
You may request a dismissal if you meet the following terms:
- Renew/correct your license within 20 business days of the date you were cited
- Present the license renewal receipt along with a $20 dismissal fee within 20 business days of the date you were cited
Expired Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR)
You may request a dismissal if you meet the following terms:
- Renew your registration within 20 business days of the date you were cited
- Provide a legible vehicle registration receipt that vehicle
- Present the receipt along with a $20 dismissal fee within 20 business days of the date you were cited
- Registration cannot have been expired more than 60 days from the date of the citation
Insurance (Fail to Maintain Financial Responsibility)
To request a dismissal, you must submit the following proof of insurance within 20 business days of the date you were cited:
- A valid policy of vehicle liability insurance before the date of the offense
- A valid driver’s license
- Information provided on the insurance policy identification card must contain:
- If you are not named on the policy, then the vehicle must be listed and you must not be an excluded driver.
- Name, address, and telephone number of the insured
- Name, address, and telephone number of the insurance company (insurer)
- Policy number
- Effective and expiration dates of the policy
- The Court will contact your insurance Company to verify coverage
If these conditions are met then the offense can be dismissed at no charge. Be advised that few, if any, insurance companies will assume liability if an unlicensed driver is operating the vehicle. Therefore, unlicensed drivers are almost always excluded in an insurance policy.
How Do I Make a Request for Compliance Dismissal?
- In person at 1791 W. Avenue B. Garland, TX 75042.
- By Mail: include a clean clear copy of proof; Picture ID; Payment for dismissal fee (if applicable); List citation number on proof & payment; provide a good mailing address. Mail to address listed above
- To obtain the proper dismissal fee (if applicable), contact Court Clerk at 972-205-2330
- Request can also be out in Drop box (Located on the outside of the Court Building).
